Trump, Johnson hold news conference at Mar-a-Lago: Watch live
Former President Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) will hold a joint press conference Friday afternoon at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla.
The two GOP leaders will speak on the subject of preventing non-U.S. citizens from voting, an area in which the two are in agreement.
Trump opposes the reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which Johnson has brought to the floor, as well as a measure to provide additional aid to Ukraine. Johnson is under pressure to take action on Ukraine aid from GOP senators.
A majority of Republicans in both chambers of Congress are in favor of both FISA renewal and Ukraine aid, but Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), a strong Trump loyalist, has threatened to go forward with a bid to remove Johnson from the speakership if he takes action on either.
The press event is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. EDT.
