2012 Watch: Obama up 11 on Pawlenty in Minn.
It looks like Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) might have some ground to make up in his home state if he is the Republican nominee to take on President Obama in 2012.
A Public Policy Polling survey released Friday found Obama leading Pawlenty by a 51 percent to 40 percent among Minnesota voters.
That is despite Obama’s approval rating sagging in the state. In Friday’s poll, 54 percent of Minnesotans approved of Obama’s job performance. That’s down from 60 percent in an April Public Policy Polling.
“These numbers nicely sum up the national political climate,” said Dean Debnam, Public Policy Polling’s president. “Barack Obama’s popularity is declining as the economy continues to stagnate, but voters don’t trust the Republican leaders either. It doesn’t bode well for Tim Pawlenty’s prospects nationally when he has such an uphill battle in his own state.”
Obama also holds a significant 56 percent to 35 percent lead against Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) in the survey of Minnesota voters.
There is a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percent in the survey.
