LA GOP looks to capitalize on Chu-Chu match up

The Los Angeles Republican Party appears to be campaigning somewhat blatantly to try to pull off an upset in the special election for Labor Secretary Hilda Solis by touting their candidate has the same last name as the Democrat.

In an email to supporters, the city party sounds very excited that their candidate – Betty Chu – has the same last name as the Democratic nominee Judy Chu.

“This special election, on Tuesday, July 14th, is a golden opportunity for us to pick up a normally “Democrat” seat as there is no incumbent and both candidates have the same last name – Chu!” the email reads.

We have written about Betty Chu’s candidacy and the logistical hurdle is poses for Judy Chu’s campaign. It should be noted, though, that Judy Chu easily won blanket primary, in which all candidates of all parties were on the ballot and Betty Chu’s name was right next to hers. So, I’m don’t think Judy Chu will have too much trouble winning the race in the heavily Democratic 32nd District.
