Poll: Is Corzine making up ground on Christie?

New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine (D) appears to have narrowed his gap to Republican challenger Chris Christie slightly in his reelection bid, according to a poll released Thursday.

The Rasmussen Reports poll showed that Corzine trails Christie by seven points – 46 percent to 39 percent. That’s a bit closer than the 51 percent to 41 percent advantage Christie held over Corzine at the end of June.

There was a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percent in the poll, so that narrowing may be only statistical.

Corzine has consistently trailed Christie in polls as they head into the 2009 race by about 10 points. But help is on the way: President Obama will stump for Christie on July 16. Obama will also attend a fundraiser for Corzine.

Corzine also recently launched attack ads targeting Christie ethics.
