Trump wins Wisconsin GOP primary
Former President Trump is projected to win the Republican presidential primary in Wisconsin, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Trump was not expected to face any serious competition in the state, which has 41 delegates up for grabs on the GOP side. He was in the state earlier on Tuesday in his first visit of the year to the Badger State.
In some states, however, Trump has still been fielding a protest vote in the form of GOP primary voters casting ballots for former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley who dropped out of the Republican primary last month.
Though those ballots for Haley won’t change the outcome that Trump is the GOP presidential nominee, they are signaling in states like Arizona that there’s still a cohort of primary voters disinterested in backing the former president.
Wisconsin is among a handful of key swing states that will determine the presidential election this fall. In addition to Trump’s visit to Green Bay on Tuesday, President Biden traveled to Milwaukee last month and is expected head back to the state again next week, traveling to Madison.
