Trump weighs in on NY Times headline: ‘Radical Left Democrats went absolutely CRAZY’

President Trump in an early morning tweet on Wednesday weighed in on the controversy surrounding an updated New York Times headline, saying it was changed after “Radical Left Democrats went absolutely CRAZY!”

“’Trump Urges Unity Vs. Racism,’ was the correct description in the first headline by the Failing New York Times, but it was quickly changed to, ‘Assailing Hate But Not Guns,’ after the Radical Left Democrats went absolutely CRAZY!” the president tweeted.

{mosads}“Fake News – That’s what we’re up against,” he added.

In a subsequent tweet, he quoted Mark Penn, saying the former Clinton adviser called it an “astounding development in journalism” during an appearance on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News program.

“After 3 years I almost got a good headline from the Times!” Trump added.

New York Times executive editor Dean Baquet said on Tuesday that his newspaper’s original Monday front-page headline, which asserted President Trump urged “unity vs. racism” after mass shootings, was a “bad” one and “was changed pretty quickly” following backlash online.

“It was written on deadline and when it was passed along for approval we all saw it was a bad headline and changed it pretty quickly,” Baquet told the Daily Beast’s editor-at-large Lloyd Grove.

“I understand the concern people have. Headlines matter. But I hope they read the coverage, which I will argue was strong,” Baquet added.

The original headline, “TRUMP URGES UNITY VS. RACISM,” was unveiled Monday night after Trump  addressed a pair of mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, that left more than 30 people dead.

Trump, who is traveling to El Paso and Dayton on Wednesday, in a later tweet quoted a One America News Network report that said the suspected Dayton shooter “had a history of supporting political figures like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and ANTIFA.”

“I hope other news outlets will report this as opposed to Fake News. Thank you!” he added.
