Trump pledges support after ‘terrible’ shooting in El Paso: ‘God be with you all!’

President Trump tweeted his support for victims of a deadly shooting in El Paso, Texas, on Saturday after news reports indicated nearly two dozen people may have been shot.

The president tweeted that he spoke with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) about the situation and had pledged the “total support” of the federal government.

“Terrible shootings in ElPaso, Texas. Reports are very bad, many killed. Working with State and Local authorities, and Law Enforcement. Spoke to Governor to pledge total support of Federal Government. God be with you all!” he wrote.

“Saddened by the loss of so many innocent lives in El Paso, TX,” added Vice President Pence in his own tweet. “Our prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire community. Grateful for the courageous efforts and swift action by federal law enforcement and local first responders.”{mosads}

Local media reports and statements from police indicated that as many as 22 people may have been shot by the suspect, who police said was in custody Saturday afternoon, while there were reports of “multiple” fatalities.

News outlets differed Saturday on the total number of people injured and killed, and conflicting reports from local officials spurred reports of multiple suspects that were eventually debunked by police.
