Talent at NBC News is slamming the network over its decision to hire former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Ronna McDaniel to provide commentary for 2024 election coverage.
Hosts like Mika Brzezinski of “Morning Joe” and Rachel Maddow have slammed the decision on air in the wake of the announcement.
“To be clear, we believe NBC News should seek out conservative Republican voices to provide balance in their election coverage,” Brzezinski said Monday. “But it should be conservative Republicans, not a person who used her position of power to be an anti-democracy election denier. And we hope NBC will reconsider its decision,” he continued, referring to McDaniel’s hiring.
Maddow called the decision to put McDaniel on the payroll at NBC “inexplicable,” during her primetime show Monday evening. She also urged the network to rethink the hire.
“Take a minute, acknowledge that maybe it wasn’t the right call,” she said. “It is a sign of strength, not weakness, to acknowledge when you are wrong. And our country needs us to be strong right now.”
Following the backlash, NBC is reportedly plotting a path to quickly reverse its decision and part ways with the former RNC chair, according to Puck News. The Hill has not been able to independently confirm this information.
