King Charles III to make first public appearance since cancer diagnosis

King Charles III will make his first public appearance in months this coming Sunday, when he and Queen Camilla attend an Easter service at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace officials said on Tuesday.

Charles was diagnosed with cancer in February and has not held any major public appearances in the time since, as he’s undergone treatment.

Officials said the Sunday event will be smaller than usual and will include members of the royal family at St. George’s Chapel, The Associated Press reported.

The announcement comes days after Kate, the Princess of Wales, announced she was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and is undergoing treatment. She and Prince William are not expected to attend the event this coming Sunday.

Buckingham Palace announced Charles’s diagnosis early last month and said the cancer was discovered during a separate prostate procedure. Buckingham Palace said Charles’s doctors advised him to postpone public events while undergoing treatment.

“Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual,” the statement added, at the time.

Charles has continued to hold weekly meetings with U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and is continuing with state business, the AP reported, citing officials.

The Associated Press contributed.
