Foley raises over $530k in under one month
Veteran Republican fundraiser Tom Foley today announced he raised more than $530,000 in the first 26 days since declaring his candidacy for U.S. Senate in Connecticut. Foley’s primary contender, former Rep. Rob Simmons, claimed he had raised more.
The winner of the GOP primary fill face Sen. Chris Dodd (D) in 2010.
The Hartford Courant reported the announcement made by Foley’s campaign manager Gregg Keller. Foley served as delegate to the 1996 Republican National Convention and is a well-known GOP fundraiser.
However, many consider Simmons to be the front runner. The former congressman has a strong web presence and has raised over $80,000 from small, individual online donations. Fred Thompson, an ex-Senator and 2008 presidential contender, recently endorsed Simmons.
Foley did not disclose the identity of his donors or amount of individual contributions he accepted.
