Ross in Trump’s crosshairs after census loss: report
Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross may be the next administration official ousted by President Trump, NBC News reported Monday.
Senior advisers and other officials told the network that Trump has discussed replacing Ross during calls with allies after the Supreme Court rejected the administration’s argument to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.
Trump essentially backed away from his pledge to add the citizenship question to the census last week.
{mosads}The president is reportedly frustrated by Ross’s leadership of the Census Bureau, which is within his department.
Kevin Manning, the Commerce Department’s press secretary, said in a statement to The Hill that Ross is currently overseeing the response to Hurricane Barry.
“On Friday, the secretary joined the President on his visit to Wisconsin and Ohio, and will continue to work on behalf of the American people and the president’s America First agenda,” Manning said. “He has shepherded the Department of Commerce into a new era, where, under the president’s leadership and direction, we have better supported American businesses from unfair trading practices and have reinforced our national and economic security at long last.”
