German chancellor seen shaking in public for third time in a month

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is facing questions about her health after she was seen shaking during an event with Finland’s prime minister, the third such incident Merkel has faced in a matter of weeks.

Video obtained by The New York Times showed Merkel appear to begin shaking while standing next to Prime Minister Antti Rinne at a military ceremony on Wednesday. As she clasps her hands in an attempt to get the symptom under control, several onlookers appear to notice and look in her direction with concern.

{mosads}Merkel later told reporters at a news conference that she was “well,” and said that she was still attempting to recover after experiencing a similar episode during a public event with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky in June.

“I was clear in saying that I am doing well and I think that can be accepted,” she said, according to the Times. “I said that I’m trying to come to grips with standing out there shaking while Mr. Zelensky visited and I think it’s going to blow over sometime soon.”

“I’m not yet there yet, but I’m convinced that I am quite capable of doing my work,” Merkel reportedly continued.

She previously told reporters after the incident last month that the symptom was related to dehydration, which she reportedly suffers from on a semi-regular basis.

“Since then I’ve drunk at least three glasses of water, which I apparently needed, and now I’m doing very well,” she said last month.
