Theresa May calls leaked memos critical of Trump ‘a matter of regret’
Outgoing U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May’s spokesman said leaked ambassador memos decrying President Trump’s administration as “inept” were a “matter of regret.”
“Contact has been made with the Trump administration setting out our view that we believe the leak in unacceptable. It is, of course, a matter of regret that this has happened,” May’s spokesman told reporters, according to Reuters.
The leaked memos between British Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) by Britain’s ambassador to the U.S, Kim Darroch, were critical of the “incompetent” Trump administration. {mosads}
“We don’t really believe this administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept,” Darroch reportedly wrote to senior British politicians in one memo.
The Associated Press reported Monday that the British government was hunting down the source of the leaks.
James Slack, May’s spokesman, told AP he’s seen “nothing to suggest hostile state actors were involved.”
