California Gov. says Trump wants to help with earthquake recovery

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said President Trump called him and said he wants to help with recovery efforts after the state was struck by two powerful earthquakes this week.

Newsom told reporters Saturday that he and Trump also discussed other difficulties the state faced such as recent wildfires, according to The Associated Press

“There’s no question we don’t agree on everything, but one area where there’s no politics, where we work extremely well together, is our response to emergencies,” Newsom said. {mosads}

“He’s committed in the long haul, the long run, to help support the rebuilding efforts,” he added.

On Friday night, Southern California was struck by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake after being hit by a 6.4 magnitude quake on Thursday.

Friday’s earthquake is the largest in Southern California in at least 20 years, according to the AP

Newsom has declared a state of emergency for San Bernardino County.
