#RainonTrumpsParade trends on Twitter for July 4 speech
The hashtag #RainonTrumpsParade trended on Twitter as President Trump spoke on the National Mall on a stormy Thursday night as part of the “Salute to America” Fourth of July festivities Washington, D.C.
{mosads}Trump spoke during an afternoon of storms that prompted the evacuation of parts of the lawn around the Capitol due to reported lightning strikes. Rain was seen on the bullet-proof barrier around Trump, clouding the view of him during his speech.
Democratic politicians and other influential figures took part in the hashtag, with Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) tweeting that Salute to America was “a partisan event” and that voters should be happy for the wet weather.
The #TrumpParade is a partisan event with the @GOP Republican National Committee doling out VIP tickets to donors. Should we be happy that for this campaign event there was #RainOnTrumpsParade?

However, others on Twitter pushed back. One user tweeted a picture of a filled National Mall saying that “it did rain, and still thousands as usual.”

Trump’s decision to give a speech on the National Mall on Independence Day was controversial, with many Democrats pushing back and describing it as a campaign speech backed by public funds in the weeks leading up to the event.
