Rubio wants 49ers to win Super Bowl to ‘rid’ of Taylor Swift ‘conspiracy theories’
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said he is cheering for the San Francisco 49ers on Super Bowl Sunday to put an end to the conspiracy theories surrounding pop star Taylor Swift and the NFL.
“I want the 49ers to win so we know — we can get rid of these conspiracy theories about Taylor Swift. Never in my life have I been motivated by anything other than football. But this time, I just — I think, if the 49ers win, it’s perfect. It gets rid of all those conspiracy theories. But I think the Chiefs are probably going to win,” Rubio said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
After the Kansas City Chiefs punched their ticket to the Super Bowl last month, conservative media was flooded with conspiracy theories surrounding Swift, the NFL and the Democratic Party. Many conservative pundits said the NFL was rigging the Super Bowl for Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his team so that she can announce an endorsement of President Biden after the big game.
Conspiracies surrounding the “Karma” singer jumped up after The New York Times reported Biden was seeking an endorsement from Swift. Swift and Kelce’s relationship has gripped national attention in the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell brushed off the conspiracies that Swift and Kelce’s romance was “scripted” in a press conference last week.
“I don’t think I’m that good a scripter, or anybody on our staff,” he said. “Listen, there’s no way that I could have scripted that one, let’s just put it that way.”
“She’s the best of the best, and so having her come to NFL games, have her a part of that, is nothing but a positive.”
