Leslie Jones blasts Alabama abortion ban on ‘SNL’: ‘You can’t tell me what to do with my body’

Comedian Leslie Jones denounced Alabama’s new abortion law while dressed as handmaid from “The Handmaid’s Tale” on “Saturday Night Live,” saying that the legislation represented a “war on women.”

Jones appeared on the NBC show in a handmaid’s gown before revealing a black shirt that featured the word “MINE” and an arrow pointing downward. She then launched into a fiery monologue about the law, which bans abortion in virtually all instances, including rape and incest.

“This is how it starts. I’m out living my life,” Jones stated. “Then I see on the news a bunch of states are trying to ban abortion and then tell me what I can and can’t do with my body.”

{mosads}She continued by joking that “next thing you know, I’m in Starbucks and they won’t take my credit card because I’m a woman instead of the regular reason, which is I don’t have no money on it.”

Jones later drew attention to the fact that every Alabama senator who voted for the law was a white man, quipping that an image of them looked like a “casting call for a Lipitor commercial.”

“You can’t control women,” Jones said, before stating that “when women have a choice, women have freedom.”

“This really is a war on women,” she added. “If you’re a woman out there and you feel scared or confused, just know that you’re not alone. There’s so many women out there that got your back.”

The comments from Jones came just days after Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) signed into law the most restrictive abortion policy in the nation. Abortion would be legal only in the event that it’s necessary to save a woman’s life. Someone who provides an abortion in Alabama could face up to 99 years in prison.

The law is set to go into effect in six months unless it faces legal changes, The Associated Press reported. Planned Parenthood has promised to sue the state over the legislation.
