Raffensperger signals he’s not worried about domestic meddling in 2024 election

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) signaled that he is not worried about election meddling from domestic sources in a new interview.

“I don’t want to seem naive about this or Pollyanna-ish,” Raffensperger told Politico in an article published Wednesday. “But I think in many respects, Georgia is moving forward a lot farther than some other states.”

Raffensperger resisted pressure from former President Trump to overturn the 2020 election by “finding” votes to overcome a gap between him and President Biden in the Peach State.

Raffensperger said he and Gov. Brian Kemp (R), who were both reelected in 2022, have helped combat false narratives about the 2020 election in their campaigning and touring the state.

“I think it’s very helpful to have me as a Republican, a conservative Republican, go out and talk to my fellow conservatives to give them the facts,” he told Politico.

However, Raffensperger is apparently concerned about foreign influence in Georgia’s elections, calling on the state’s Legislature to ban foreign funding of campaigns and create new guardrails for foreign agents.

“With open borders, the number one issue facing our Nation is foreign interference in our campaigns and elections,” Raffensperger said in a press release.

“That is why I am calling on the General Assembly to immediately pass legislation banning foreign funding in elections and campaigns, and to require political consultants and lobbyists who are agents of foreign entities to register and disclose their work to the state.”

Raffensperger also went after Trump in an editorial last week in the National Review for repeating “recycled conspiracy theories” about the 2020 election during his 2024 run for the presidency.

“The big lie about the 2020 election, repeated now for more than three years, has brought forward no proof and nothing that hasn’t been publicly known since January 2021,” Raffensperger wrote.

“The current variations, on display regularly during Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign thus far, are merely part of the dancing fountain of lies that have been disproven by the count, the recount, and the audit of the 2020 vote in Georgia. Not one single shred of evidence has been offered in its support, in my state or in any other,” he wrote.
