GOP strategist: ‘It’s time that we faced Iran head-on’

Republican strategist Daniel Turner said on Wednesday that it is time for the U.S. to face Iran “head-on” after a top official announced Tehran would stop complying with parts of the multinational nuclear deal.

“We’ve been having these little battles with Iran since their revolution,” Turner, executive director of Power the Future, told Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”

“If this administration wants to do a stranglehold on Iran’s wealth, which is capping its oil, which is its export, I think it’s time that we faced Iran head-on,” he continued.

“Hopefully, not military intervention, but if we can inspire the people of Iran to take control of their nation, and stop this rogue government from funding terrorism around the world,” he said.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced on Wednesday that Tehran would pull out of parts of the Obama-era nuclear deal unless other nations agreed to start selling Iranian oil despite the threat of U.S. sanctions within 60 days.

Wednesday is the one-year anniversary of President Trump’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal, which gave Iran sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program.

The Trump administration announced on Wednesday that it would impose additional sanctions on Tehran “very soon.”
