White House holds press briefing: Watch live

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will deliver a daily press briefing Tuesday as the Biden administration continues to focus on abortion rights in events that mark the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

President Biden is holding a campaign event on reproductive health care policy Tuesday in Virginia, where he’ll also meet with medical providers privately. Vice President Harris, who is touring the country to emphasize the issue’s importance to the administration, is joining the president at the rally. 

At a meeting of the White House reproductive rights task force Monday, Biden characterized abortion restrictions in the post-Roe era as “an affront to women’s dignity” that jeopardizes patients’ lives. New policies at the Department of Health and Human Services are aimed at allowing access both to contraception and emergency abortion services.

Tuesday’s briefing is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m. EST.
