Trump: I heard Barr ‘did a great job’ in Senate hearing

President Trump on Wednesday lauded William Barr in his first reaction to the attorney general’s appearance at a tense Senate hearing on the special counsel’s Russia investigation.

“I heard that the attorney general was really, really solid and did a great job today,” Trump said during an interview with Boston Herald Radio.

{mosads}During the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Barr defended his handling of Robert Mueller’s report on the probe amid grilling from Democratic senators who accused him of botching its release and tipping the scales in favor of the White House.

Democrats seized on a letter Mueller sent to Barr in late March criticizing the attorney general’s four-page memo summarizing the report’s findings. Some even called on Barr to resign following the hearing.

But Trump said he thinks the Democrats “are very devastated because they looked at the report and there was absolutely no collusion and there’s no obstruction either, and they were hoping against hope because that’s the only way they could actually get lucky.”

He also took aim at Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 and was among those who called on Barr to step aside.

“I think it’s ridiculous. She defrauded the public for a long time, and she should really be the one to resign,” Trump said.
