Andrea Mitchell asks Gillibrand why male candidates are polling better than women in presidential race

MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell asked Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) why “white, male [presidential] candidates are doing better than any of the women candidates” during a Tuesday afternoon interview with the 2020 presidential hopeful.

Mitchell prefaced her question by citing a University of New Hampshire Granite State Poll released Monday that showed three male candidates at the top of the survey.

{mosads}”Why do you think white male candidates are doing better than any of the women candidates?” Mitchell asked Gillibrand, one of several female senators running for president.

“Well, I don’t know, but this is a marathon and not a sprint,” Gillibrand replied. “And I know that I have a vision for this country and the experience to actually get it done and a plan to get it done.”

Gillibrand then discussed her plans for the country, including national public service and paid family leave.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) led the University of New Hampshire poll with 30 percent support. Former Vice President Joe Biden, who is expected to jump into the race on Thursday, was second with 18 percent. South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg was third with 15 percent.
