Columbine set to commemorate lost lives with ceremony
Littleton, Colo. residents were set to commemorate the lives lost in the shooting that took place at the high school 20 years ago on Saturday with a ceremony.
The remembrance ceremony was scheduled for Saturday afternoon at a park near Columbine High School, according to the Associated Press. It was one of a series of events scheduled to honor the people killed in the shooting at Columbine on April 20, 1999. {mosads}
A group that included Columbine students and staff members also participated in community service activities, including working at a homeless shelter and helping the elderly, according to the AP.
People also visited a memorial near the school. The school itself was closed.
In the 1999 incident, two shooters killed 12 students and a teacher at Columbine High School and then killed themselves.
On Wednesday, Denver-area schools closed after a woman who was “infatuated” with the shooting made “credible threats” days before the 20th anniversary of the event. After searching for the woman, authorities announced that she was dead on Wednesday.
