Rick Scott slams ‘lawless’ Biden administration over border crisis
Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) slammed President Biden and his administration as “lawless” over the border crisis during a Sunday podcast discussion.
Scott joined John Catsimatidis on his talk show Cats Roundtable on Sunday to discuss the Senate’s ongoing negotiation on asylum policy changes.
“We’ve got to say, we’re not gonna do anything else, we’re not gonna do Ukraine funding, we’re not going to continue funding our federal government, we’re not gonna do anything, unless we get a secure border,” Scott said. “The Biden administration is lawless. They don’t care what the laws are.”
Both chambers of Congress are set to begin 2024 with a heightened focus on border issues, as House Republicans took a trip to the border near Eagle Pass, Texas this week and the Senate gears up its impeachment proceedings against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, The Hill previously reported.
Republicans have made migration issues central to their messaging efforts, even passing a package that would limit asylum protections earlier in 2023.
The issue is now getting heightened attention amid historic border crossings and as the U.S. attempts to send aid to Ukraine and Israel in their respective wars.
In the interview, Scott argued that “we don’t need a new law … we need enforcement of law.”
“And so that’s what I’m going to work on. There’s a lot of us working on it,” Scott said of the recent House GOP trip to the U.S.-Mexico border. “They’re completely committed, that we’re going to have a secure border, or we’re not going to continue to pass legislation.”
Scott continued, saying that Democrats in the Senate don’t care about the border because they continue to support Biden “in everything.”
“Schumer has them acting like little robots that whatever Biden wants, that’s what they get,” he said. “Biden wants an open border.”
“This is a risk … to your family, my family, every family in this country,” Scott continued. “We have got to say, the number one thing to do, when we get back up there on Monday, is to secure the border.”
