Cindy McCain: John McCain would be ‘so upset’ over political incivility

Cindy McCain says in a new interview that her late husband, former Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), would be “so upset” by the current level of incivility in politics.

“He’d be so upset over this just because of the tenor, the lack of inaction on many members’ parts,” McCain said in an interview set to air Friday night on “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt,” referring to members of Congress.

{mosads}She noted that her husband didn’t shy away from a political fight but emphasized that it was never personal, pointing to his interactions with former Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.).

“It was never personal with him,” she said. “He and Ted Kennedy used to fight like cats and dogs on the floor, but they were the best of friends. … I wish we could go back to that.”

McCain also said that if her husband were still alive he’d be right in the mix saying, “No, we’re going to work together.”

John McCain died last year from brain cancer. Last month, President Trump lashed out at the late senator, calling him “horrible” and saying that he was “never a fan of John McCain, and I never will be.”
