Scaramucci on Trump’s rhetoric compared to Hitler: ‘It’s a total dog whistle’

Former Trump communications director Anthony Scaramucci claimed former President Trump’s remarks that drew comparisons to Adolf Hitler, “Mein Kampf” and Nazi Germany are “a total dog whistle.”

Scaramucci, who served on the former president’s campaign team and just 11 days in the administration, said Trump “knows exactly what he’s doing” with his comments. He also argued his former boss would promote lies or random pieces of information because he thought “it sounded good at the time.”

“Listen, it’s a total dog whistle for him,” Scaramucci told CNN’s Abby Phillip.

“So, he knows exactly what he’s doing,” he added. “He puts things out there, sort of with a forked tongue. He’ll say one thing and say, ‘Oh geez, I didn’t realize that that was from that,’ but he does know that it’s from that.”

Trump has come under fire in recent days after he repeatedly claimed immigrants coming to the U.S. are “destroying the blood of our country” and critics argue he is parroting Nazis. The Anti-Defamation League has said the phrase echoes Hitler’s rhetoric in his book “Mein Kampf” that asserted German blood was poisoned by Jews.

The former president later said he is “not a student of Hitler,” despite repeating the claim — denying that he intended any racist sentiment with the phrase.

Trump said he knows “nothing about Hitler” and had “never read his works.” Scaramucci suggested that someone likely wrote the speech knowing “that Hitler said it.”

“I do believe him that he has not read Mein Kampf, okay, because I don’t think this guy’s ever read a book,” the former Trump aide said in the clip highlighted by Mediaite. “The joke on the campaign is that he’s written more books than he read.”

“He knows he has a base some of them of which are white supremacist,” he added.

Scaramucci said “the elites in the country” must understand that there are many people suffering across the country that feel rejected by the establishment.

“So they use President Trump as an avatar for their anger,” he said, adding that the former president will blow “that whistle very hard because he knows they’re gonna come out and vote for him.”

“They’ll vote in the rain, they’ll vote in the sleet and the snow,” Scaramucci argued. “They don’t care, he knows that. That’s why he’s blowing very hard on that whistle.”
