Biden’s approval rating at record low in new poll

President Biden’s approval rating hit a record low Monday, with just 34 percent saying they approve of his performance in the White House.

Sixty-one percent of respondents said they disapproved of Biden’s job performance, according to a Monmouth University poll released Monday. Biden has seen his approval ratings lingering below 40 percent for months and with the 2024 election less than 11 months away.

The Monmouth University poll approval rating comes in below a Wall Street Journal poll earlier this month that found Biden at a 37 percent approval rating. That poll also had Biden trailing former President Trump, the GOP front-runner, in a hypothetical match-up in the 2024 presidential election.

In the poll released Monday, only 3 in 10 Americans polled said that Biden is giving enough attention to the issues most important to them. On specific issues, 68 percent said they disapprove of his performance on inflation, 69 percent disapprove of his performance on immigration, and 54 percent disapprove of his performance on climate change.

Additionally, 53 percent disapprove of his performance on jobs and unemployment and 52 percent disapprove of his performance on transportation and energy infrastructure, which has been a major focus for the president since the passage of the infrastructure law.

Among Democrats, the poll found that only 50 percent approve of his handling of immigration and 62 percent approve of how he has handled inflation.

The new poll was conducted from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4 and included 803 adults. It has a margin of error of 4.8 percentage points.
