Trump complains of ‘one-sided hatred’ on late-night comedy shows

President Trump on Wednesday complained about the “one-sided hatred” on late-night comedy shows, lamenting that he is now unable to watch the programs.

“The one-sided hatred on these shows is incredible and for me, unwatchable,” Trump tweeted. “But remember, WE are number one — President!”

{mosads}Trump’s tweet was spurred by a segment on “Fox & Friends,” where the co-hosts discussed comments from former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno’s appearance a day earlier on NBC’s “Today.”

Leno said he’d like to see “a bit of civility come back” and expressed reservations that “everyone has to know your politics.”

“People say it must be easy to do jokes with Trump. No, it’s actually harder,” Leno said, saying that it can be difficult to top the absurdity of the administration’s scandals and controversies.

Late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers, in particular, have built their shows around jokes and monologues at the president’s expense.

Trump, who is sensitive to criticism in the media, has in the past lashed out at comedy programs.

At a campaign rally last June, Trump mocked each late-night host and questioned their humor before insisting that he “can laugh at myself.”

Trump also has a long-running feud with “Saturday Night Live,” as the sketch comedy show frequently makes the president the butt of its jokes and has brought on Alec Baldwin to do regular impersonations.
