Right-wing comedian Michael Loftus said in an interview that aired Friday on “Rising” that there is an “illusion” that the lack of communication between conservatives and liberals has led to problems in U.S. political discourse.
“People want to maintain this illusion that we can’t talk, and that we can’t disagree, but we actually can,” Loftus told Hill.TV’s Buck Sexton last month. “It’s when people stop talking that the problems happen.”
Loftus is a headliner for the political comedy show “The Deplorables,” which appeals to conservatives voters.
The show’s nationwide tour kicked off last fall.
Loftus told Hill.TV that the show provides President Trump’s supporters a sense of community that, he said, they may not have in their everyday lives.
“That’s the wonderful thing about this tour. People who have been isolated, and they’re like ‘wow, I must be the only one in my neighborhood that voted for Trump, I guess I’m the weirdo.’ No, come out to the show,” he said.
“Your friends are all out there, your neighbors are out there. There’s a reason Donald Trump got elected. There’s a ton of us.”
