Biden: Trump ‘did the right thing by walking away’ from North Korea deal

Former Vice President Joe Biden offered some rare praise for President Trump on Thursday after Trump abruptly ended a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“The president did the right thing by walking away,” Biden said while speaking at the University of Nebraska, the Lincoln Journal-Star reported Thursday. “But diplomacy matters; preparation matters. The president treats everything like it’s a real estate deal.”

Biden added that he hopes that Trump “learned a very important lesson.”

{mosads}Trump’s negotiations with Kim ended abruptly on Thursday. Trump defended the Vietnam summit’s collapse, saying, “Sometimes you have to walk.”

“It was about the sanctions,” he said at a news conference. “Basically, they wanted the sanctions lifted in their entirety, and we couldn’t do that. They were willing to denuke a large portion of the areas we wanted, but we couldn’t give up all of the sanctions for that.”

Biden is not the only Democrat to praise Trump’s decision. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Thursday also said he approved of Trump’s decision while speaking on the Senate Floor.

Biden, meanwhile, appears to be gearing up for a 2020 presidential campaign. Two of Biden’s advisers have been meeting with potential aides, The Hill reported Thursday Thursday. If he does announce a bid, he would be joining a crowded field for the Democratic nomination that includes Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).
