Brennan rips into Trump for criticizing intel chiefs: it shows ‘your intellectual bankruptcy’

Former CIA Director John Brennan on Wednesday ripped into President Trump for criticizing top intelligence leaders, saying that the criticism was evidence of Trump’s “intellectual bankruptcy.”

“Your refusal to accept the unanimous assessment of U.S. Intelligence on Iran, No. Korea, ISIS, Russia, & so much more shows the extent of your intellectual bankruptcy,” Brennan wrote in a tweet in response to Trump.

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump said in a tweet that the intelligence leaders are “wrong” about their assessment of nuclear developments in Iran, calling them “extremely passive and naive.”

“The Intelligence people seem to be extremely passive and naive when it comes to the dangers of Iran. They are wrong!” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning.

“Perhaps intelligence should go back to school!” Trump added in a second tweet. 

Trump’s attacks against the intelligence community came after Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats testified this week before the Senate Intelligence Committee that Iran isn’t working to make nuclear weapons.

That appeared to contradict the stance of Trump, who has claimed that Iran poses a threat.

“They are testing Rockets (last week) and more, and are coming very close to the edge. There [sic] economy is now crashing, which is the only thing holding them back. Be careful of Iran,” Trump wrote in one of his tweets Wednesday morning.

Trump last year revoked Brennan’s security clearance in a move that was seen widely as an attempt to retaliate against a top critic of the president.

Brennan, who served as CIA director under former President Obama, has since continued to publicly criticize the president, however.
