Sanders dodges question about pardon for Stone
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Monday dodged a question about whether President Trump would pardon Roger Stone, his one-time confidant indicted in the Russia investigation.
“I’m not aware of that,” Sanders said when asked whether Trump has ruled out a pardon of Stone. “I’m not going to get into that at this point.”
{mosads}When pressed to rule out a possible pardon, Sanders said she would not engage a “hypothetical” that she called “ridiculous.”
Stone was indicted last week on several counts of obstruction of justice, lying to Congress and witness intimidation regarding his contacts with intermediaries of WikiLeaks, which published Democratic emails stolen by Russia during the 2016 presidential race.
The former Trump adviser is the latest campaign official to get caught in the probe. But Sanders denied it put the White House in jeopardy, saying “nothing could be further from the truth.”
Trump has previously refused to rule out a pardon for former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who was convicted last year in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election interference.
