Watch live: White House press briefing
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is delivering a daily press briefing Monday afternoon.
Over the weekend aid shipments began entering Gaza, confirming the plans President Biden set out in a remark at the White House U.S.-E.U. summit Friday. The three shipments that had arrived by Monday, however, were far short of the supply that the U.N. says will be necessary for basic needs such as water and medical care.
The White House has expressed steadfast support for Israel in its fight against Hamas. The New York Times is reporting, however, the Biden administration has advised Israel to hold off on a ground assault into the Gaza Strip to allow further efforts to free the more than 200 hostages held by Hamas.
The briefing is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
