Conway: It would be ‘remarkably petty’ if Pelosi disinvites Trump from giving address

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said Wednesday that she thinks it would be “remarkably petty” if Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) disinvites President Trump from giving the State of the Union address next Tuesday.

“It would be, I think, remarkably petty of the Speaker to disinvite the president of the United States to address the nation that they both serve at the highest level,” Conway said on Fox News.

Conway said that Trump plans to go forward with plans to deliver the speech on Tuesday so that guests and attendees can plan accordingly, and insisted that Trump is not being “vicious” toward Pelosi.

Conway added that she thinks Pelosi would find it “embarrassing” if Democrats did not show up to the speech.{mosads}

“I think fundamentally she is someone who doesn’t always have control of her temper about the president, but she often doesn’t have control of her own chamber,” she said.

Her comment came moments after Trump sent a letter to Pelosi saying he planned to deliver the address on Jan. 29, ignoring her objections due to security concerns amid the partial government shutdown.

Pelosi requested that Trump postpone the speech, noting that the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service are currently not funded.

Trump responded by canceling Pelosi’s planned overseas trip to Afghanistan, Egypt and Brussels hours before she was scheduled to leave.

Trump said in his Wednesday letter that he has been assured by national security officials that there are “no security concerns.”

“It would be so very sad for our country if the State of the Union were not delivered on time, on schedule, and very importantly, on location!” he wrote.

Lawmakers have not yet passed a resolution formally inviting Trump to deliver the State of the Union address in the House chamber.
