London police: Damaged drone discovered near airport

The London police on Sunday announced that a damaged drone has been discovered near the city’s Gatwick airport, which was forced to shut down last week Wednesday over nearby drone sightings.

Detective Chief Superintendent Jason Tingley told Sky News that the drone was discovered near the airport’s perimeter.

{mosads}”Obviously we will be doing everything we can with regards to forensically examining that drone and that is something that is being fast-tracked and expedited,” Tingley told CNN.

Two people were reportedly released earlier in the day after being arrested in connection with the drones.

Sussex police said that the pair who were arrested on Friday were released because they cooperated with authorities and weren’t considered suspects, according to The Associated Press.

“We ask for the public’s continued support by reporting anything suspicious, contacting us with any information in relation to the drone incidents at Gatwick,” Tingley told the AP.

The airport canceled incoming and outgoing air travel due to the drone disruption, leaving thousands of travelers stranded last Wednesday.

“Each time we believe we get close to the operator, the drone disappears; when we look to reopen the airfield, the drone reappears,” Sussex Police Superintendent Justin Burtenshaw told the UK’s Press Association earlier in the week.

Police have said there is no indication that the incident was terror-related.
