Trump knocks Biden’s UN address as a ‘surrender’ speech

Former President Donald Trump took aim at President Biden’s address to world leaders at the 2023 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday, referring to his potential 2024 election opponent’s speech as a “surrender” to which nobody “showed up” in a recent post on TruthSocial.

“Biden just finished his surrender (“speech”) at the United Nations, and nobody, despite all we give them, showed up,” Trump wrote in a post on TruthSocial. “No respect for America any longer!”

The GOP frontrunner’s comments came after Biden appealed to the heads of state and government from at least 145 countries at the organization’s headquarters in New York, urging them to unite in support of Ukraine as the Russian invasion continues.

“Russia believes that the world will grow weary and allow it to brutalize Ukraine without consequence,” Biden said. “But I ask you this: If we abandon the core principles of the U.N. Charter to appease an aggressor, can any member state feel confident that they are protected?”

The president affirmed America’s commitment to “stand with the brave people of Ukraine as they defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity — and their freedom,” encouraging his international allies and partners to do the same. The Biden administration is currently working on securing approval from Congress to provide $24 billion in additional funding for Ukraine but must contend with resistance from some conservative House members.

Trump, who has said during this year’s election cycle that he would end the war in 24 hours and would not commit to sending aid to Ukraine if re-elected, last addressed the UNGA in 2018 and was met with laughter from the audience after he claimed at the time that in his two years of office, he had “accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country.”
