Biden coins new nickname in jab at jobs numbers: Donald ‘Hoover’ Trump

In remarks Thursday at a Maryland college, President Biden took a swipe at former President Trump for being one of two presidents who left office with fewer jobs than when he entered.

In an effort to sell “Bidenomics,” his economic plan that intends to build from the bottom up and middle out, Biden coined a new nickname for his predecessor: Donald “Hoover” Trump.

“Folks, it wasn’t that long ago we were losing jobs in this country. In fact, there were only two presidents in American history with fewer jobs the day they left office than when they started,” Biden said during his remarks at Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Md. “One was President Hoover, and the other was Donald ‘Hoover’ Trump.”

There were 3 million fewer jobs in the U.S. when Trump was preparing to leave office than on his Inauguration Day in 2017, reports from the Labor Department showed.

Biden’s handling of the economy has gotten mixed reviews, however. RealClearPolitics polling shows just 38 percent of those surveyed approve of Biden’s efforts, while 58 percent disapprove.

Biden, who, like Trump, is on the campaign trail seeking a second term in 2024, is angling for voter support behind Bidenomics.

“Seriously, we’re living through one of the greatest job-creation periods in our history. And, folks, it’s not an accident,” Biden said Thursday. “That literally is our economic plan in action. Bidenomics in action.”
