NC GOP leader praises journalists for covering election fraud allegations

The head of North Carolina’s Republican Party praised journalists on Monday for their coverage of alleged election fraud in an undecided U.S. House race.

“On behalf of the North Carolina Republican Party, our activists in the 9th Congressional District and the voting electorate, I want to thank you and encourage you to continue these efforts for years to come,” Executive Director Dallas Woodhouse wrote in an opinion piece for The News & Observer. “Only you can help end systematic failure to fix this problem going back more than a decade, involving three different North Carolina governors of both parties, several different boards of elections, countless local, state and federal prosecutors and both major political parties.”

Woodhouse urged journalists to continue to uncover “the rampant criminal behavior” which he said has “become common accepted practice.”

The GOP candidate in the scrutinized race, Mark Harris, said Friday that he would support a new election.

Harris leads Democrat Dan McCready by 905 votes more than a month after the Nov. 6 race. McCready withdrew his concession on Thursday.

The North Carolina State Board of Election is investigating fraud claims and irregularities in absentee ballots in the race. Woodhouse has said Republicans would be open to a new election if the board “can show a substantial likelihood” that the absentee ballot fraud could have changed the outcome of the election.

Republicans and Democrats have disputed who should conduct an investigation into allegations of widespread election fraud.
