‘Melania’ and ‘Ivanka’ rise in baby name popularity, ‘Donald’ and ‘Eric’ dip
“Ivanka” and “Melania” are rising in popularity as baby names, while “Donald” and “Eric” dip, according to a new analysis of government records.
The first name of first lady Melania Trump has jumped 227 percent in popularity since 2015, according to an AreaVibes review of Social Security Administration data. The first name of Ivanka Trump, the president’s eldest daughter, has shot up 362 percent.
{mosads}The president’s first name, however, remains dipped in popularity by 11 percent during the same time period. Eric, the first name of one of the president’s sons, declined by 6 percent.
The rise in the use of “Ivanka” and “Melania” as baby names has been more sustained than that of “Hillary” when former President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary Clinton moved to the White House in 1993.
The popularity of “Hillary” as a name dropped after 1992, according to AreaVibes.
The top name for girls born in 2017 was “Emma.”
