Trump to visit Bush family Tuesday
President Trump said he plans to visit the Bush family on Tuesday following the passing of George H.W. Bush while praising the “elegance and precision” of the memorials in honor of the former president.
“Looking forward to being with the wonderful Bush family at Blair House today,” he tweeted. “The elegance & precision of the last two days have been remarkable!”
{mosads}Blair House is a government house across the street from the White House, typically reserved for incoming and former presidents and visiting foreign dignitaries.
First lady Melania Trump has also invited former first lady Laura Bush to tour Christmas decorations at the executive mansion, the president announced.
Ceremonies surrounding Bush’s state funeral have aired live on cable news over the past two days, as Bush’s casket was flown on the government jet used as Air Force One to Washington and paraded with full military honors to the U.S. Capitol, where he is lying in state.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday at the National Cathedral and both Trumps are expected to attend. The first family visited the Capitol on Monday night to view Bush’s casket.
President Trump has hidden his animosity toward the Bush family since the 41st president died last weekend. Trump has previously called former President George W. Bush the “worst president ever” and the elder Bush reportedly derided Trump as a “blowhard” and said he voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.
Nonetheless, the former president made it known before his death he wanted the current president to be in attendance at his funeral.
