GOP rep. pushes for unredacted Jan. 6 transcripts

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) sent a letter requesting that the White House return transcripts, including the testimony of Secret Service “agents and employees.” to the U.S. House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol.

Loudermilk, the chairman of the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, began an inquiry into the Jan. 6 committee in March. In the letter, which he sent to White House special counsel Richard Sauber, Loudermilk called for the transcripts of testimonies to the Jan. 6 committee of “multiple Secret Service agents or employees who were assigned to former President Trump on January 6, 2021,” to be returned to the House “in their original, unaltered format.”

“I am willing to discuss any redactions you believe are necessary prior to these records being released publicly,” Loudermilk’s letter read. “If you assert that some of the records are classified, we are prepared to receive and store them in the appropriate classified setting.”

In the letter, Loudermilk also requested that the transcripts be returned to the House by 5 p.m. Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the White House said it was still reviewing the transcripts in a letter to Loudermilk obtained by multiple news outlets. According to the outlets, the White House said it is adding redactions to the transcripts.
