CBS News White House correspondent Major Garrett said on Friday that President Trump will ultimately be remembered for appointing conservative judges.
“A hundred years from now, I think the courts will be the most important aspect, especially if he is a two-term president,” Garrett told Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti on “Rising” when asked what people will remember in a hundred years about Trump.
“For all of the criticism of Donald Trump … of having [a] short attention span, and sort of a volcanic or volatile approach to the day-to-day rigors of the presidency, he is most methodical and disciplined about the court, at the highest level of the Supreme Court, but also the district court and the appellate court,” he continued.
“He has lots of people around him who are helping him with that, and that method is repeatedly methodical and largely successful. It’s why during the midterms he so conspicuously prioritized the Senate Republican majority over the House Republican majority. Why? The House doesn’t help him approve court nominees,” he said.
Trump has campaigned on appointing conservative judges and justices ever since the 2016 presidential election.
He has since kept that promise, turning the Supreme Court more conservative with the appointment of two right-leaning justices and judges to lower courts across the country.
