Los Angeles Chief Information Officer Ted Ross said in the premiere episode of “Boundless,” which aired on Wednesday, that 5G technology will ultimately enable cities to better deliver services such as public safety and trash collection to their citizens.
“A 5G conversation by essence is a conversation on how technology makes a community more livable, more equitable, more sustainable,” Ross told Hill.TV.
“When you really think about what a city service is, whether it’s collecting trash, filling potholes, managing traffic, or public safety, it’s really the city providing a service to an individual or to a community, where they need it, when they need it,” he continued.
“5G allows us an ultra-high speed connectivity that not only gives us better information of what our communities need when they ask for it, but also gives it the ability to deploy in a very efficient way,” he said.
“By proactively knowing when there’s an issue in the city, whether it’s a situation that needs police, or a situation that needs a pothole filled, it allows us to proactively respond and deliver it without a citizen never having to ask for it,” he said.
