Maxine Waters reelected to House seat in California

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) was easily reelected to her House seat, defeating Republican challenger Omar Navarro in California’s 43rd Congressional District.

Waters had received almost 72 percent of the vote with 27 of 343 precincts reporting when the race was called.

{mosads}With Democrats projected to regain control of the House, Waters is expected to become chair of the Financial Services Committee, where she is currently the ranking member.

Waters and other Democrats on the committee have called for Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) to subpoena the Treasury Department and Deutsche Bank for any documents related to possible financial links between President Trump and Russia.

“If there is information that is going to be unveiled about what has been going on in the White House or Donald Trump or the Treasury, it will come out,” Waters said in September.

Waters has been a top target of criticism for Trump, who has called her a “low-IQ individual.” Waters has called for Trump’s impeachment and has faced criticism for calling on Democrats to confront Trump administration officials in public.
