Campbell Soup to ‘accelerate’ departure of executive who tweeted about Soros funding caravan

The Campbell Soup lobbyist who tweeted that George Soros was helping fund the immigrant caravan streaming toward the U.S. border left the company late last week after his already planned departure was accelerated.

“Mr. Johnston and the company discussed in August that he would transition out of his role with his departure scheduled for early November,” a company spokesperson told The Hill via email regarding Kelly Johnston.

“In the last few days, the company and Mr. Johnston agreed that under the current circumstances it would be best to accelerate the timing of his departure.”

Thursday was Johnston’s last day, the Campbell spokesperson told The Hill.

CNN Business broke the news of Johnston’s exit earlier Sunday.

Johnston was formerly Campbell’s vice president of government affairs.

{mosads}Last Monday, Johnston tweeted that Democratic donor Soros’s organization, the Open Society Foundations, was responsible for the immigrant caravan.

“See those vans on the right? What you don’t see are the troop carriers and the rail cars taking them north,” he wrote, in a tweet that has since been deleted. “@OpenSociety planned and is executing this, including where they defecate. And they have an army of American immigration lawyers waiting at the border.”

Johnston has since deleted his Twitter account.

Campbell distanced itself from Johnston’s tweet last Tuesday, writing that “the opinions Mr. Johnston expresses on Twitter are his individual views and do not represent the position of Campbell Soup Company.”

Soros was one of many Democratic figures who was targeted with an explosive device in his mail last week.
