Poll: Nelson tied with Scott in Florida Senate race

Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) is in a statistical tie with Gov. Rick Scott (R), according to a new poll of their Florida Senate race. 

A St. Pete Polls survey released on Monday found that 48.6 percent of likely Florida voters favor Scott, who cannot run for another term as governor due to term limits. Meanwhile, 48.3 percent of respondents said they favored Nelson. 

That 0.3-point difference between the candidates falls well within the 2.5-point margin of error. 

{mosads}The poll revealed that 3.1 percent of likely voters remain undecided with about two weeks before the general election. 

Surveys continue to show Nelson and Scott in a competitive race for the Florida Senate seat.

A CNN poll released just a day earlier showed Nelson held a 5-point advantage over Scott among likely voters. 

Earlier this month, a survey conducted for Gray Television by Strategic Research Associates revealed that Nelson had a 1-point lead. 

Nelson and Scott clashed on a range of issues, such as the mass shooting in Parkland, Fla., and health care, in a debate earlier this month. But a second debate between the two scheduled was canceled after the two could not agree on a date. 

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report has rated the race between Nelson and Scott a “toss up.” 

The poll from St. Pete Polls was conducted from Oct. 20 to 21 and surveyed 1,575 likely voters.
