GoFundMe campaigns supporting Christine Blasey Ford top $700K

GoFundMe campaigns supporting Christine Blasey Ford, a college professor who accuses Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault while they were in high school, have raised more than $700,000 on her behalf.

The two GoFundMe campaigns associated with Ford’s name, “Help Christine Blasey Ford” and “Cover Dr. Blasey’s security costs,” were set up earlier this month to help the Palo Alto professor as she prepared to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

{mosads}”We are working directly with all campaign organizers and guarantee the funds raised will be transferred directly to the Ford family,” a spokeswoman for GoFundMe, Katherine Cichy, told ABC News.

“To be very clear, we have designated the Ford Family as the beneficiary of these funds. We cannot take the money out or otherwise direct the funds,” Cichy added.

Ford went public with her allegations during an interview with The Washington Post earlier this month, claiming she was sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh at a house party in the 1980s.

On Thursday morning, Ford told the Senate Judiciary panel in gripping detail that when she was 15 years old, Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed and tried to forcibly remove her clothes, putting his hand over her mouth when she tried to scream.

Kavanaugh has denied the allegations brought against him by Ford, as well those from two other women that have emerged in the past week.

On Friday, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination to the full chamber, but members requested a delay in the Senate vote while the FBI is given time to investigate the claims, a request to which GOP leadership agreed.
