Publisher prints 1M copies of Woodward book ahead of Tuesday release

Simon & Schuster has printed 1 million copies of veteran journalist Bob Woodward’s book on the Trump White House ahead of its release on Tuesday in the face of growing demand, CNN reported on Monday.

The publisher told the network that it has ordered additional copies of “Fear: Trump in the White House” before it’s slated to hit shelves and come out in e-book form.

“We have reprinted six times for a total of seven to meet extraordinary demand — that will put one million books in print before we’ve even gone on sale,” a Simon & Schuster spokesperson said.

Woodward’s book has led to numerous headlines since last Tuesday, when the first excerpts were published from the former Watergate reporter and current Washington Post associate editor’s latest work.

{mosads}The book includes multiple specific allegations of high-ranking staff members questioning the president’s competence and circumventing some of his decisions, as well as Trump bad-mouthing top aides.

The book quickly rose to the No. 1 spot on Amazon.com’s list of best-selling books after the first excerpts were published.

Trump has repeatedly lashed out at Woodward over the past week, calling him a “liar,” suggesting he’s a Democratic operative and labeling the book “fiction.”

The White House continued its attacks on Woodward during Monday’s press briefing, calling the writer “reckless” and noting that multiple officials named in the book have refuted quotes attributed to them.

Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders also didn’t rule out a lawsuit against Woodward.

Woodward has stood by his reporting despite the White House’s response, saying on Sunday that chief of staff John Kelly and Defense Secretary James Mattis are “not telling the truth” in their denials.

Woodward’s book is based on hundreds of hours of interviews with firsthand sources, meeting notes, personal diaries, files and documents. The Post veteran has written a series of tell-all Washington books about previous administrations, a number of which have become best-sellers.
