Trump Organization plans $200 million investment in Scottish golf course

The Trump Organization intends to invest close to $200 million to develop one of its properties in Scotland, The Associated Press reported Tuesday.

The Trumps own two golf courses in Scotland: Turnberry and one near Aberdeen. The family business submitted a proposal to the Aberdeenshire Council that outlines its intentions for the latter property, which has been opposed by some locals.

The Trump Organization indicated that it plans to build 50 cottages, a sport center and equestrian facilities on its property, according to the AP. The project will create nearly 2,000 construction jobs and 300 permanent jobs, the company said in its proposal.

The AP reported that a number of area residents have accused the Trump Organization of previously failing to deliver on job promises associated with the project.

President Trump’s adult sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, run the Trump Organization. Trump roiled ethics watchdogs after his election when he refused to fully divest from his businesses.

That decision has led to numerous claims from watchdogs, and multiple lawsuits, that the president is profiting off of his office.

The president spent a weekend at his Turnberry resort earlier this month during a trip to Europe.

The Scotsman reported that the U.S. government paid roughly $65,000 to Trump’s Turnberry resort for housing and accommodations for staffers during the president’s stay. Eric Trump claimed the company did not profit from the trip, though he did not specify where the payment went instead.
