Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) on Tuesday called for the United States to conduct large-scale hacking attack on Russia in retaliation for the country’s efforts to influence American politics in 2016 and subsequent years.
“Cripple everything,” Cohen said in an interview with Hill.TV’s morning news show, “Rising,” when he was asked if he supported cyber-warfare efforts against Russia’s financial industry. “If they all fell underneath the Kremlin and were buried together, it would be too soon.”
Cohen also took aim at President Donald Trump for his conduct in Helsinki at a summit with Russian president Vladimir Putin, saying that he was surprised that Trump was so deferential to Putin.
“I thought he would have at least tried to put a facade of being an America First,” he said. “It’s obvious Trump first, Russia second, America third.”
